Christianity no longer top, Islam taking over - 04-07-2008, 05:06 PM

According to many articles, it looks like Islam is perched at the top.

So all those years of being told its a small peaceful religion in school have been proved wrong.

Whats even more frightening is that the figures are from 2006.......... two years ago....

Whats your take on it? Mine is that for any organisation to have 1,300,000,000 people following it is frightening enough. This is even more so.

p.s I realise it might get slighted heated in here, but lets no hold grudges or hold offence :)

But would not say that it is frightening, no matter if you are Christian, atheist, jew etc

Islam has an odd mandate, which appears to be VERY flexible. The extremists can pull quotes out of their a$$es all day long supporting their jihad, while moderates have their own quotes.

Is it not worrying that one organisation can become so large. Religion is a very dangerous thing to the wrong people. It inspires atrocities, and lets face it, if you really belive that you would get your virgins in heaven by killing non belivers...........anything is possible.

Its beyond our understanding because we live in a totally differnet culture. Still just as frightening.

:O

and the fact that Islamic terrorist killings outnumber the ENTIRE 350years of spanish inquisition in one year alone means...........?

Our religion has been through the shit house. We have had people abuse power throughout human history. But is that not human nature? Are paedophiles and power crazed people not attracted to power & places of trust?

The difference is, that our mandate is to "turn the other cheek"

"Your raging herectics". So would you say that you are extremely anti Christian to the point of impinging on me? And no I do not condemn you no matter what you say. You are a human, entitled to your opinion. I wont go blow up a childrens bus, or detonate myself in a marketplace when someone draws a derrogatory picture of Jesus unlike other religions.

A true Christian will not impinge on another Christian. Christians are not pro gay. Should they be? :rolleyes: It is NOT natural and people DO have a choice. I knew a friend once who turned queer. He later had the balls to turn back, is now married etc.

We would NOT harm queers. We acknowledge that God is the ultimate judge. We are all sinners and all beseech God for forgiveness.

Lets face it abortion is wrong. You are killing the possibility of life. We as Christians believe that only God has the right to give and take life. Again however, a good Christian would NOT resort to violence of any sort, and tbh its rare.

When you look at the amount of atrocities in this world, consider how many are done by Christians....

Sure there are incidents in history. However the world WAS a different place back then. It wasnt civilised, and corrupt people got away with alot more.

Take for instance the story in the new testament

Quote:
John 8
1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Is that not beautiful. The son of God (in my eyes) having the eternal compassion to forgive the woman. There was no hint of her having to spend life in devotion, no need for groveling, no need for servitude etc. She was forgiven in a heartbeat. Such is Gods love for us.

I think in conclusion, I can sum up Christianity & Islam.

Christianity = Mercy
Islam = Justice

I dont think I can be fairer or more accurate than that :)

With a history (CENTURIES WORTH) like ours we can't go jolly around telling people "my religion is morally superior than yours" it's outrageous and shows how childish and ignorant people really are, same could be said about being a Muslim, thats why we are in no position to judge them as they are to judge us. You yourself answered the bigger question, it's not religion that kills people it's those bigots who manipulate sheep for their own gains. We already had an episode of mix feelings during the Crusades, when people were literally tearing each other apart like mad dogs for small patches of land even though Jesus basically said (somewhere along the lines) "that you will find God in your heart" not some church or small landmass, but I guess history repeats itself if not taught properly.

Yes, Jesus forgave a woman but since the bible wasn't written by Jesus, but by men with different points of view (men not being perfect from the start), we handled women differently and not along the lines of righteous in historical terms.

You are blowing those numbers out of proportion. As for the "Spanish Inquisition" as you mentioned is only a portion in Inquisition history Inquisition - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but even the inquisition is just a pebble in the hordes of corpses maimed/killed/traded in the name of God which includes the slave trade

This argument is weak at best, even in those times being evil wasn't justifiable specially when everyones life was already harsh, bringing more pain into life doesn't justify the means of being an evil person, thus a child molester then, is a child molester now, time doesn't change that fact, nor does my sympathy or peoples sympathy from the past. When we talk about molesters back then we are talking about those people who fresh up with toddlers and children.

Away once again, expect a significant delay in PM responses.
